No Compromises – British outline 1:120 TT is here!

HELJAN is developing the first ready-to-run British outline 1:120 scale TT locomotive, reviving a widely admired but long-lost alternative to existing ‘N’ and ‘OO’ scale models.

Building on the recent unveiling by PECO of the first items in a new range of British 1:120 scale TT products, we are delighted to announce the first ready-to-run British outline 1:120 scale locomotive – a Brush Type 2/Class 31 diesel locomotive.

CAD work is well advanced and we expect to move to the tooling stage shortly. The initial production batch will feature six models in BR green (with/without small yellow warning panels), BR green with full yellow ends, BR Rail Blue and RTC livery. Further models in refurbished condition for the 1980s and beyond will follow if there is enough demand. Suggested Retail Price (SRP) has been set at £199.00 (DCC Sound prices will be confirmed later) with first releases expected in late-2023.

Above: TT Class 31 will be available DCC Ready with a speaker fitted or with factory fitted DCC Sound.

We hope that this will be the start of something very exciting for British railway modellers, with TT filling the gap between OO and N. However, unlike those long-established scales (and unlike ‘old TT’, which featured 1:100 scale bodies on 12mm gauge track), everything will be to the same scale. There will be no need to compromise on track gauge or the scale of your models, or to convert models to finescale gauges to get the correct look. Even better, 1:120 scale TT is already widely used outside the UK, expanding the range of rolling stock at your disposal.

Our models will be built to international standards for couplings and wheel standards to ensure maximum compatibility with other manufacturers. They will also feature factory-fitted speakers, LED lighting features, fine detail and a Next 18 DCC decoder interface. All versions will be supplied DCC Ready or with factory fitted DCC Sound. More information on other planned models will be confirmed later, but we have already identified the legendary Hunslet ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST and Class 08 0-6-0DE shunter as possible future projects in TT.

Look out for further updates on this exciting new venture soon!

Above: HELJAN’s TT Class 31 will be offered initially in unrefurbished form in variety of liveries from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Replying to

Hornby are already moving ahead with the Class 66 in their range, but I would love to see a Hunslet Austerity in TT120
